Here at Jumalauta snowboards, we are passionate about crafting high-quality snowboards. Our inspiration and commitment lie in our immense pride of Finnish snowboarding through the ages. Jumalauta Snowboards is our “hats off” to all the athletes who have been out there putting Finland on the map as a top country in the global snowboarding community.
To show this appreciation, we are proud to announce that the boards are made and designed in Finland. Not only made, but also grown. One of Finland’s prized export goods is our lumber. Just think about it a bit, anything that grows for decades or even a century in darkness for 150-200 days/year, and in an average temperature of +5°C, can’t be anything but rigid and tough. We are devoted to using only locally grown and milled aspen and birch for our cores. Along with flax fiber from Bcomp Ltd. as the reinforcing composite and bound together with bio-based epoxy from R*concept, we ensure that our snowboards are not only durable but also one of the most environmentally friendly boards around. Excellence is evident in every handmade product we create.
Our unique value proposition lies in the brand name. -Jumalauta, [ˈjumɑˌlɑu̯t̪ɑ].
The word is considered a curse in the Finnish language. Also translated mostly wrong as “goddamn it”. The word jumalauta actually originates from the words “Jumala” (God) and “auta” (help). This means the proper translation should be “God help me,” which actually turns the curse around to a prayer. Nevertheless, a curse it is, and as a curse it will stay. But what comes to the snowboard lingo in Finland, jumalauta is the all-purpose word that can mean -rad, sick, crazy, cool, sweet, insane, good or bad stoke… you name it! It all depends on how it is toned and pronounced. But the moment a Finn silently grinds the word between his or her teeth, mountains move and usually some sort of history has been made.
Finnish Sisu, a term that embodies the resilience and determination of the Finnish people. The thing that keeps us rising to our feet fall after fall is summoned by the “evil” spell above.
