The Matsutake or Tuoksuvalmuska in proper Finnish, is the newest addition to the Jumalauta boards lineup.
Featuring 25mm of taper, heavy setback matched for balance with the sidecut plus a longitudinal slightly convexed shape on the base from front foot to tail to deliver that weightless surfy feel off and on the slope.
This one is packed with inspiration from the Finnish wilderness. Keeping in mind the details of the northern backcountry terrain aka. the “pöpelikkö”.
This board has been designed with the emphasis of a surfy float and high maneuverability on all surfaces. Sad but true, fun pow days with easy access are few in a year. Some more among the trees, this has also been taken to concider ib the shaping. Powder or no, the ride is all important. Thanks to the Jumalauta Pure Heart Tech construction, this one keeps the edge grip tight on a slope all the other days the backcountry is temporarily unavailable.

In Finland we have this thing called “pöpelikkö” [pøpelikːø]. When fully groomed park areas and commercial forests are left out of the mix this pöpelikkö is what covers about all the rest of any forest type of grounds in Finland, and if you know anything about how this land looks, you know there is a lot of it.
The word defines a kind of a thicket with a rich variety of vegetation, old to young trees and usually not the easiest to access. Not that one would ever be too far or would need special vehicles to access, most Finns live near, or have their cottages in a pöpelikkö. It’s also the type of woods that has treasures buried within. Blueberries, lingonberries, edible fungi like the rarer Matsutake and other delicacies.
Basically 90% of all the backcountry riding in Finland happens in a pöpelikkö of some kind and the common nominator for them all is that the trails and paths are tight. You most often need to be on your A game to navigate the trail. The runs are short, steep, fast and have a lot of everything you just want to dodge by default.
This board is designed to be agile,fast and playful on all terrain, and is catered for the bit more seasoned rider with an acquired taste for that surfier style to ride. Short and wide is the definition, not overshooting either. As all good delicacies the “Matsutake” contains some chefs secrets like the convexed camber from front foot to tail. The default 154 features a 25mm taper, 330m nose 273 waist alongside the Finnish nationals banked slalom gold medal proven Tokyo Aave (Aaveajaja) 158 sidecut. All this together makes this one capable board.
This one has been on “the drawing board” for a long time, but the actual spark of life for the Matsutake was initiated by Mikko Silventola.
Mikko is more known within the corporate startup community as someone who has an excellent taste for venture delicacies. Though we all have our day jobs, snowboarding has been a strong part of Mikkos life and heart from the early days. Sharing the passion for Finnish snowboarding and a belief the world would be a slightly better place with one more powder dedicated snowboard shape, the Tuoksuvalmuska aka. Matsutake, was born.
